Paleo / Ancestral Health
Our principles are well-aligned with those of paleo and ancestral health advocates.
These groups are best known for advocating dietary guidelines based on pre-agricultural food sources.
We don't believe it is simply enough to say that because humans ate certain things during our bodies' most formative period, we should eat those things now, and not other things. Rather, it is more important to recognize the processes by which what we ate shaped our bodies, investigating them both through historical analysis and by comparison with other types of animal dietary strategies.
Such analysis has been done very successfully, in particular, by Paul and Shou-Ching Jaminet in The Perfect Health Diet. Their book and blog offer a fantastic perspective as to which food sources provide us the best chance of cooperating effectively with our digestive and metabolic systems, rather than trying to outsmart and override those systems as we have tried to do in the past!
